Shower Screens
Made-to-measure shower screens for awkward spaces, angled walls, and bespoke bathroom designs — toughened safety glass, cut to fit any Auckland bathroom.
A custom shower screen is a shower enclosure made to measure for a specific bathroom — cut to fit an angled wall, a non-standard opening, a corner wet area, or a bespoke design that an off-the-shelf screen won't suit. The glass is toughened to size, the hardware is specified for the screen, and the whole thing is built around your bathroom rather than the other way around.
I fit custom shower screens across Auckland — for renovations in Herne Bay and Remuera where the bathroom walls aren't square, for new builds on the North Shore where the architect has specified an unusual opening, and for ensuites in Wanaka and Queenstown where the space is tight and the screen has to fit exactly. If a standard screen won't do the job, a custom one will.
Most of my custom shower screen clients fall into one of three groups. They're renovating an older Auckland home where the walls aren't square and an off-the-shelf screen leaves an ugly gap. They're building or designing a bathroom with an unusual layout — a corner shower, an angled wall, a wet area with no door — that a standard screen can't accommodate. Or they want a specific look, like a tall frameless panel or a heavy 12mm glass door, that isn't available as a stock item.
Custom doesn't mean complicated — it means made to measure. The same style options apply as for a standard shower screen, but the dimensions and hardware are specified for your bathroom.
Custom shower screens meet the same glass safety standards as any other shower screen in New Zealand — and because they're often larger or heavier than a stock screen, the glass spec and hardware have to be matched to the size.
Every custom shower screen I fit is built to the right standard and signed off. I won't install anything that wouldn't pass a building inspection.
Custom shower screens typically start from $1,200 for a made-to-measure semi-frameless hinged door, with fully frameless custom doors from around $1,800 depending on the glass thickness, the panel size, and the hardware spec. Angled or shaped glass and tall frameless panels cost more because the glass and hardware are specified for the job.
The final price depends on the screen size, the glass thickness, the hardware spec, and whether the screen is frameless, semi-frameless, or fully framed. A custom angled screen for a raked-ceiling bathroom in a Castor Bay renovation is a different quote to a tall frameless panel for a walk-in wet area in a Murrays Bay new build — and I'll price both honestly after the measure.
Most custom shower screen installs take half a day to a full day on site, with the full timeline from quote to handover running 3 to 5 weeks — slightly longer than a stock screen because the glass is made to order.
Custom shower screens need the same routine care as any glass shower screen — a squeegee after each shower stops water spots, and a wipe with glass cleaner every week or two keeps the glass clear. The hinges on a frameless door should be checked every year or so to make sure they're still running smoothly, especially on a heavy 12mm door.
Every custom shower screen comes with a workmanship warranty on the installation, plus the manufacturer's warranty on the toughened glass and hardware.
I'm George Watson, and custom shower screens are some of my favourite work — because every job is different and the fit has to be exact. Because I do the measure and the install myself, the fit on a custom screen — which is where it really shows, especially on an angled or out-of-square opening — is tight and consistent. Free measure, free quote, fixed price, and I oversee every install myself.
