St Heliers has that same mix as Herne Bay and Devonport — character villas sitting right on the water, with the deck being the place you go to watch the harbour. The balustrade here has to do two things at once: meet the fall-height safety requirement on a deck that's a long way up, and stay discreet enough not to spoil a heritage facade. Frameless glass is the material that does both. A channel system, kept simple, reads as a safety barrier and nothing more.

Behind the waterfront, the streets climb steeply and the houses stack up the hill. Those upper decks have the best views on the shore and the most exposure to wind, so we engineer the fixings to the specific site. A sheltered villa deck and an exposed hillside deck need different details, even on the same street.

Inside, the renovated bathrooms in these villas are often generous, and a hinged frameless shower door in toughened glass is the finish that matches the rest of the home.
