Cliff-top decks with the best view

Rothesay Bay is small but the homes here sit up on the cliff above a narrow beach, which means the decks have one of the best sea views on the Shore. It also means the balustrade has to be engineered for the exposure. A frameless channel system is the right call visually — the view is the whole point and the barrier needs to disappear — but the fixing detail has to be up to the wind and salt this site takes.

I always walk a Rothesay Bay deck before I quote it. An exposed upper deck and a more sheltered lower deck on the same house can need different fixing specifications, and I'd rather get that right upfront than have a balustrade that rattles in a southerly. The engineering follows the site, not the other way around.

Engineering for the cliff edge

Cliff-edge exposure is the real deal — wind, salt, and UV all hit the fittings directly. We use 316 marine-grade stainless on every fixing, we seat the glass carefully in the channel, and we powder-coat any aluminium to a coastal spec. On the most exposed decks I'll sometimes recommend a slightly thicker glass panel for stiffness. It's all about making sure the balustrade is still doing its job and looking good in ten years.

Pool fencing and shower screens

A few Rothesay Bay homes have pools on the lower terraces, and we fit frameless glass barriers that keep them F9-compliant and visible from the house above. Shower screens round out the work — the renovated bathrooms in these homes tend to be compact, so a frameless hinged door is the right finish to keep the space feeling open.
