Remuera is one of those suburbs where the houses have real presence. You've got character villas on large sections, mid-century places being renovated, and brand new architect-designed homes sitting side by side. The balustrade has to match the architecture, not fight it. On a sleek new build I'll usually suggest a frameless channel system — no posts, no handrail, just glass. On a renovated villa with a timber deck, a powder-coated aluminium frame in a colour that picks up the joinery often sits better.

A lot of Remuera properties sit on the slope down toward the harbour, so the deck is where the view lives. I always walk the site with the homeowner before we spec anything, just to stand where they'll stand and see what the balustrade will and won't block. It's a small thing but it changes the system we recommend.
