Established family homes

Hauraki is a settled residential suburb — established homes, good sections, close to the harbour but not right on the beach. The work we do here is mostly retrofitting a modern balustrade onto an existing deck where the old timber or wrought iron has reached the end of its life. Side-fixed spigots are my usual recommendation because we can fix to the existing deck edge without rebuilding the structure.

The homes are mostly being renovated as families settle into them long-term, so the balustrade has to suit the architecture of the house. On a mid-century place, a powder-coated aluminium frame in a colour matched to the joinery sits well. On a sharper renovation, a frameless channel system is the cleaner call. I'll always come and look at the site before recommending.

Moderate, constant coastal exposure

Hauraki is close enough to the harbour that the salt air is a constant presence, even if it's not the full force you'd get on a cliff edge. I treat every install here as a coastal job — marine-grade 316 stainless on the fixings, powder-coated aluminium where we use it, and every fixing sealed properly. The point is to fit something once and have it age well, not to fit something the homeowner has to revisit in a few years.

Pool fencing and shower screens

Some of the larger Hauraki sections have pools, and we fit frameless glass barriers that meet F9 and keep the pool visible from the house. Shower screens round out the work — the renovated family bathrooms in these homes suit a frameless glass screen that's easy to keep clean and makes the room feel bigger than its footprint.
